2011 Winter Hut Trip

Valhalla Mountain Touring Feb 27 to March 6

The season is here

You know what I'm talking about - the season of deep untouched snow, alpenglow on the peaks, long powdery descents, and hot drinks by the fire in the evening. Yes, after months of dreaming, ski season is upon us!

And what better way to enjoy the ski season than to join the ACC Okanagan section on our annual hut trip. The trip is fun for everyone - a week in a stunning snowcat accessed hut, surrounded by alpine peaks, and as much skiing as you like.

This year's trip is at Valhalla Mountain Touring - a lodge just outside of Valhalla park. A luxurious lodge surrounded by prime Kootenay ski terrain!

The lodge has an indoor flush toilet, leather sofas (with lazy boys!), stereo, electricity that operates 24 hours a day, wireless internet and running hot and cold UV filtered water. If you ever needed a way to ease into the backcountry...

Access is by snowcat, not helicopter, so there will be no weather delays getting into or out from the lodge.

Our trip is self-guided and self-catered. This keeps the cost down - it's half the price of a guided and catered ski week! Going self-guided also means that we work together to make travel decisions in avalanche terrain. If you've taken an avalanche course, this trip is a great opportunity to work on your terrain and snowpack evaluation skills in a collaborative environment. Safety is truly first with our group, and we follow up every day with an evening discussion about our observations and decisions.

If you are interested in participating in this ski trip, please contact me (Brenda) at or 250-317-0358. I'm happy to answer your questions about the trip, and give you more information.

We'd love to have you along!
