The exec met on Sept. 19th, at the residence of one of the members. We had a good and productive meeting, covering the following topics.
Finances
Solvent as usual. We don't have enough cash to cover the balance due to Golden Alpine in November, so we'll have to work to get the trip filled up by then.
Projector Purchase
The club still wants to buy a projector. Dave is looking into this. $1000 was suggested as an appropriate budget. The purchase should be delayed until the winter camp expenses have been covered.
Photo Contest
Dave will do the publicity, Jim will organize again. Judging will be in December, since the AGM would provide a limited timeline.
AGM
The AGM will be November 14th, facilities permitting. Telemark X-C club is the preferred facility. Suggested that we do $5 pizza or similar rather than pot-luck.
Winter Camp
Winter Camp is at Golden Alpine Holidays, Feb 26 - Mar 6. Cost is $953 per person. Brad and Cat will organize.
Leadership Survey
... has been completed. Good job Jim. We have a great depth of experience in our club, and hopefully we can use that to get some good trips going.
North Face Leadership Course
Applications due November 1; the course dates are Jan 17-24. The course focuses on ski touring, not mountaineering or glacier travel this year. The club encourages any interested members to contact any member of the executive. Participation in the course implies an obligation to lead club trips in the future.
Advertising
The club is occasionally asked to advertise commercial services such as courses. The club in general is happy to endorse activities that support the club's overall objectives. Each advertisement will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis by the executive.
Executive Recruitment
There will be some turnover this year; chair, secretary, treasurer, membership, outings positions are coming available. All members are encouraged to participate in the executive.
BD Club Equipment
Black Diamond has discounts available for gear purchased for club use. Brad will look into how good the discounts are. The club will consider the purchase of glacier travel rope, among other things, for the winter camps.
Wheeler Review
The Wheeler Weekend was great. Lots of new faces and fun. The club lost $500. We should repeat again next year, with attention to not losing money. National might give us a break on the hut fee.
Section Report to National
The section will provide a report to ACC National at the National AGM. Of particular concern to the section is the lack of club discount for hut bookings, and the late timing of the lotteries.
