We car camped at the Heliotrope Ridge trail head. Next morning hiked for about an hour to roughly tree line and skied from there. Hard icy conditions at first but ski crampons not necessary. Good coverage on the glacier. Several other parties were on the route. Most wore harnesses but were not actually travelling roped up and we did the same. Some groups boot packed straight up the Roman Wall headwall but there is a better and gentler ascent line to climbers right. Strong smell of sulphur throughout the day and smoking vent holes at the summit. Cool. The return trip was tough in wet mashed potato snow. 8 hours up. Photos:
