We climbed Mount MacDonald via the Herdman Couloir and the SW Ridge on July 1st. There is an easy creek crossing at the picnic area (see http://informalex.org/mharc/html/MCR/2013-06/msg00009.html). The Herdman was completely snow filled except for 2 waterfall sections mid-way. At the top of the Herdman we followed the ridge crest for a short distance before being forced to drop down on the south side for 100m to bypass a 10m drop on the ridge. The SW ridge itself is a mix of low 5th class and scrambling as the guide book indicates. The final corner to the summit looks intimidating from below but is easily bypassed to climbers right. 3-4 short rappels on the descent. We witnessed some horrendous rockfall down the Herdman as the sun came around onto its slopes by mid-afternoon. Overall the route is pretty tedious.
